Robert Miller
General Counsel
Robert and his team are responsible for all of Skype’s legal, regulatory and government relations issues worldwide.
Robert has a lot of experience in e-commerce and communications having worked in the industry for over ten years since he joined British Telecommunications plc. During his six years at BT, he built up excellent practical knowledge and experience of the Internet industry, both wireless and fixed in the UK and Europe.
Robert joined eBay UK in September 2001 to be its first in-house lawyer and as a member of the management team helped to grow the UK business by building its legal and GR capability and supporting key marketing and strategic partnership deals. He also established and maintained a pre-eminent reputation with all public affairs constituencies, including law enforcement, and worked hand in hand with eBay’s PR team to support eBay’s high media profile where legal or GR issues were involved.
Robert was delighted to join Skype as General Counsel in February 2006. In Robert’s words, “I was fortunate enough to be involved in eBay’s acquisition of Skype from the early negotiation meetings in London. After the deal, I jumped at the chance to join Skype. Similar to eBay, I was very excited to work in such a passionate, motivated and fast-paced environment.”
Outside of work, Robert spends his time with his wife and chasing after their two young children. Fairly obsessed by sports, both UK and US, he has a season ticket for Arsenal Football Team. A lot of his travelling time is spent messing with his iPod and PSP, seeing what great songs Last.fm recommend him and his current number one gadget is his new SlingBox.
