Brian O’Shaughnessy
Head of Global Communications
Brian O'Shaughnessy is Skype's head of global communications, overseeing media relations, internal, product and corporate communications and is based at the company’s headquarters in Luxembourg.
Prior to Skype, Brian led the consumer product communications team at Google for search, Google's Chrome browser, YouTube's global expansion and the Android platform, the company’s open source mobile operating system.
His career in the technology communications field began in 1989 as a senior legislative aide for U.S. Congressman Edward Markey (D-MA) and he served as the Director of Public Policy for the Internet Alliance, a trade association for the Internet's leading corporations. He went on to become the director of policy communications for Network Solutions Inc. (NSI), the founder of the domain name registration market. Following the acquisition of NSI by VeriSign, he became VeriSign's director of corporate communications for all corporate campaigns and principal policy spokesperson.
In Washington, D.C., Brian also worked for Cassidy & Associates, a leading lobbyist firm, as a telecommunications fellow and at Edelman Public Relations Worldwide in the Global Telemedia group. His Washington experience also included time at the National Information Infrastructure Advisory Outreach Task Force.
He holds a B.A. in political science from Merrimack College and a master's degree from New York University's Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP).
