Skype Introduces SMS Messaging and 10-way Conference Calling For Mac Users

November 15, 2006

LUXEMBOURG, November 15, 2006 – Skype, the global Internet communication company, has released a new version of its popular communications software for Mac, Skype™ 2.5 Beta for Mac. In response to user demand, the new beta version offers outbound SMS text messages and 10-way conference calling. These new features make it even easier for Mac users to keep in touch with friends and family using Skype.

Skype SMS
The latest version of Skype for Mac offers the ability to send an SMS message to any mobile phone number in the world. Users simply select a SkypeOut™ contact, enter a mobile phone number or select a Skype contact’s mobile phone number in their profile. Friends, family and colleagues can now be reached instantly, whether they are offline or on the move.

10-Way Conference Calling
Users can now hold conference calls with up to nine other people. Calls can be made to Skype contacts for free and to landlines and mobiles for a fee, via SkypeOut. Whether your contacts are in one city or scattered around the world, you can now get together to share a laugh or hatch the next killer business idea without hassle.

Audio Device Controls
Users can now choose which audio device they want to use for incoming and outbound calling. If you prefer to listen to calls you receive through headphones but make a call using a speakerphone, it’s now possible in the latest version of Skype.

These new features come on the heels of the most delightful Skype feature yet – users who have a broadband Internet connection can enjoy free one-on-one video calls, viewed within the Skype window or on the full computer screen. Simple and elegant, it’s all available through the sleek and intuitive interface that Mac users have grown to expect.

As with all Skype releases, Skype for Mac users can talk with the more than 136 million registered Skype users across the world without worrying about the cost, distance or length of the call. The latest version of Skype is available for download now at skype.com.

Are We ‘Poles’ Apart? ...Not Anymore As Skype Brings Polish Communities Together With Free Internet Calling

November 13, 2006

Call Polish landlines from the UK and Ireland for free during 9-10th December, using Skype

13th November, 2006, London, UK – Skype, the global Internet communications company, together with Onet, the leading Polish web portal, are bringing Polish communities together across the UK. On 9th-10th December, Poles living in the UK can call their friends and relatives living back home for free. Whether it’s speaking to your future husband following Andrezejki or calling your grandmother for the secret to her Babka bread, your loved ones are just a call away.

With an estimated 750,000 Poles currently living in the UK and up to 200,000 Poles living in Ireland, Polish communities represent a significant part of the UK’s expatriate population. Unlike traditional phone calls, internet calling over Skype™ allows you to do much more than just talk. Today you can see who you are calling, chat online with instant messaging or share information such as pictures and music.

Alistair Shrimpton, Skype’s Market Development Manager for the UK says “Polish communities in the UK are in abundance and keeping in touch with friends and family back home in Poland can be an expensive process. It’s easy to run up huge mobile phone bills with international roaming charges. Also, phone cards don’t always offer the cheapest or most convenient option for staying in touch. Skype thought it would be great to offer Polish expats the chance to call any landline in Poland for free the weekend of 9th December 2006 from the UK.”

Free calls home to Poland 9th-10th December
Skype already offers free calls between Skype users no matter where they are in the world, as long as they have an Internet broadband connection. Cheap international calls can also be made to non-Skype users using SkypeOutTM. The free calling weekend to Polish landlines runs for 48 hours from 12:01 a.m. CET Saturday, 9th December through Sunday, 10th December at midnight CET.

To find out more information about Skype, simply visit www.skype.com/go/polski.
More information about the free calling weekend will be available on the website from 9th December. Taking advantage of this offer will be simple. All you need is Skype software and a broadband connection. With no additional SkypeOut registration, Skype will automatically allow free SkypeOut calls to be made from the UK and Ireland to Polish landlines.

Skype is one of the fastest growing Internet communication companies in the world. Skype software is available in 28 different languages and is used by more than 136 million registered users worldwide. When it launched back in 2003 Skype’s vision was to allow people around the world to talk to each other for free. Calls between Skype users across the world are completely free. Skype also allows you to call ordinary landlines. This is called SkypeOutTM. Skype charges a small amount per minute for this but it is still extremely cheap, allowing users to make savings on traditionally expensive international calls. All you need is a broadband connection, internet phone or headset and the Skype software and registration for a user account, download for free at www.skype.com/go/polski.

SKYPE 3.0 BETA BRINGS THE GLOBAL COMMUNITY TOGETHER

November 9, 2006

LUXEMBOURG, November 8, 2006 – Skype, the global Internet communications company, today released the latest version of its software, Skype™ 3.0 Beta for Windows. Skype users across the world can now enjoy even simpler and easier ways to talk to one another with new features that enable community-led chat and discussion.

Skype 3.0 beta also includes a series of enhancements to the ‘look and feel’ of Skype. These enhancements aim to make Skype even simpler to use and give users instant access to the features they need, when they need them.

“With every release of our software, we want to give people the freedom to explore the boundaries of conversation and make internet calling and ‘live’ online discussions the most natural thing in the world,” says Henry Gomez, Chief Marketing Officer & Director of Worldwide Operations, Skype.

“We’re introducing a number of new features with Skype 3.0 beta including Click-to-Call which lets users make calls to ordinary phone numbers when they are online. Click-to-call is so easy to use. For example, imagine you’re searching online for a good place to eat and you find a restaurant and want to make a reservation. All you need to do is click on the number and you can make a direct call using SkypeOut™,” concluded Gomez.

The new features and benefits of Skype 3.0 include:

- Skypecasts™ and Public Chats which allow users to join in multi-person community conversations and discussions.

- Click-to-call which lets users make calls to ordinary phone numbers with just one click when surfing different websites, using SkypeOut™.

- A more powerful and personal user interface making it even easier to enjoy using Skype.

Skypecasts are now in beta and allow users to browse and join Skypecasts via a new ‘live’ window featured in Skype. Skypecasts are live, moderated discussions allowing groups of up to 100 people from anywhere in the world to talk to one another.

Skype is also introducing an exciting new community feature - public chats. Public chats are open, ongoing text conversations based on instant messaging where users can meet new people and chat about anything they fancy. A Skype user can start or join a public chat directly from Skype. Public chat hosts can moderate the flow and content of conversation.

Hosts can also reject or ban users from public chats and set rules on who can participate and observe the conversation in progress. Public chats can be promoted using simple online links and web banners in email signatures, blogs, forums, websites or even Skype mood messages.

The new version makes it easier for consumers to call ordinary phone numbers with just one click when surfing the internet. Click-to-Call is an automatic online phone number recognition feature that works with both Internet Explorer and Firefox. Click-to-Call allows Skype users to call directly from any website using SkypeOut™.

Skype’s new and enhanced user interface delivers a more simplified and personalized experience. The updated look and feel makes Skype simple to use and gives users instant access to the features they need, when they need them. Personalization has been improved through clickable mood messages and new wallpapers allowing users to customise Skype to suit their personality.
