January 31, 2006

São Paulo, January 31, 2006 – Global Internet communication company Skype and telecommunications operator Transit Telecom announced a deal that will launch SkypeIn to the Brazilian market.

SkypeIn beta is a new Skype offering in Brazil that allows users to have their own private number, provided by Transit Telecom, to receive inbound calls from traditional landline or mobile phones to Skype.

“We are really pleased to work with innovative and pioneering partner Transit to offer SkypeIn to Brazilian consumers. Skype registered user numbers have been increasing exponentially and attests to the power of consumer choice,” says Skype’s Vice President, Strategic Partners, Geoffrey Prentice. “Brazil in particular is a country known for its early adopter attitude towards new innovations. Today, it is one of the top five countries in the world communicating through Skype,” celebrates Prentice.

“We both share the same vision of business, as Transit and Skype are companies focused on innovation”, says Transit Telecom Technology VP Alexandre Alves. “With this deal, SkypeIn customers can choose an area code from major cities across Brazil and are assigned a regular access number from Transit to receive calls. Anyone may call the SkypeIn number wherever the user travels”, he concluded. At launch, SkypeIn is available in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre, Curitiba, Belo Horizonte, Campinas, Santos, Joinville, Caxias do Sul and São José dos Campos.

Skype’s software offers free, unlimited Skype-to-Skype communication on Linux, Mac OS X, Pocket PC and Windows platforms, as well as SkypeIn and SkypeOut products. All Skype premium products are offered on a pre-paid basis to eliminate billing surprises and are available online at www.skype.com.

Three month SkypeIn subscriptions are available for approximately R$ 30,00 (€10) for 3 months and 12 month subscriptions for approximately R$ 90,00 (€30). Skype Voicemail subscriptions are available separately for approximately R$ 15,00 (€5) for 3 months or R$ 45,00 (€15) for 12 months, and a free subscription is included with all SkypeIn orders.

The free voicemail that comes with SkypeIn allows customers to receive a voicemail message of up to 10 minutes from any user or traditional phone. Philips and Skype offer global, interactive connectivity

January 4, 2006

LAS VEGAS, Jan 4 – Combining the optimum in mobility, voice quality and ease of use, Philips Electronics is teaming up with global Internet communications company Skype™ to introduce a new Internet phone, the VoIP321. The new cordless phone has dual functionality so consumers can make free Skype calls, as well as ordinary landline calls – giving them maximum freedom and the ability to toggle between both communications mediums. Through Skype and Philips’ joint product, consumers can experience a new level of communication simplicity.

“The introduction of Skype compatibility to our devices is great news for consumers, enabling them to communicate in new ways with friends and family far away,” said Nick Dosanjh, vice president and general manager, Philips Home Communication. “Philips is actively working with a number of companies to provide consumers with innovative entertainment and communication solutions. The VoIP321 is designed to allow the consumer to experience Skype’s service with the convenience of a familiar cordless telephone and the simplicity and ease of use expected from Philips.”

The VoIP321 was developed to combine the key benefits of Skype with the advantages of Philips’ home cordless technology. Skype’s rich features include: free worldwide calls, conferencing, video calls and chats with other Skype users. Users of the VoIP321 can make and receive both Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) and Internet calls from a single handset. Enabling users to carry their contact list anywhere in the home, the new VoIP321 allows consumers to view who is available on Skype by simply looking at the cordless phone display. The handset allows specific polyphonic ring tones to distinguish Skype and landline calls.

“The Philips brand is associated with quality and exceptional design, and we are pleased to offer consumers feature rich, user-friendly Skype enabled products for the home and office. Our collaboration with Philips demonstrates how Skype is revolutionizing communications,” said James Bilefield, vice president of business development for Skype.

The innovative Internet phone operates on Digitally Enhanced Cordless Telephone (DECT™) technology. The new DECT technology enhances the sound and security available in a cordless phone. Consumers will experience crystal clear sound and reduced noise interference with the new DECT technology.

The VoIP321 is easy to use. Just a press on the Skype key allows you to access your Skype contacts list and see who from your friends and family are connected. Busy consumers also can multi-task and experience hands-free conversations via the speakerphone feature.

The VoIP321 represents an important development in Philips’ ‘Connected Planet’ vision that enables users to enjoy wireless content and communication anytime, anywhere. By merging telecommunications and information with entertainment, the VoIP321 frees consumers to benefit from wireless and Internet technology wherever they are within the home.

Philips will launch the VoIP321 in Europe in May 2006 and in the U.S. in July 2006.

NETGEAR, Skype to Connect on Family of Innovative Products Including World’s First Skype WiFi Mobile Phone

LAS VEGAS — January 4, 2006 — NETGEAR®, Inc. (Nasdaq: NTGR), a worldwide provider of technologically advanced, branded networking products, and Skype®, the global Internet communications company, today announced they are working on a family of innovative new products, including the world’s first Skype wireless mobile telephone and a router equipped to optimize Skype.

The NETGEAR WiFi phone will make mobile Internet telephony a reality for Skype users. Unlike other devices that must connect with a PC, NETGEAR’s Skype WiFi phone will work wherever a consumer is connected to a wireless Internet access point — be that in a home, office, cafe, open public hotspot, or any open municipal wireless access point being deployed worldwide. The Skype experience remains the same, in that users can make free domestic and international calls, as well as host conference calls and chat, with other Skype users anywhere in the world, and to non-Skype users for a small fee. With this device, headphones or USB phones plugged into a laptop or PC are not required.

“Customers can now call anyone on Skype, anywhere in the world for free without using a PC anytime they are connected to WiFi. We’re extremely proud to deliver the world’s first mobile phone enabling customers to enjoy all the benefits of Skype,” said Patrick Lo, NETGEAR’s chairman and chief executive officer. “Moreover, Skype integration with our RangeMax wireless router will further extend our leadership in innovative networking devices. Skype offers the simplicity, WiFi offers the connectivity, and NETGEAR offers the technology to innovate these market-changing products. Our teamwork with Skype is yet another way that NETGEAR is helping people to connect, all around the world.”

An October report from Jupiter Research forecasts that by 2010, 20.4 million U.S. households will subscribe to some form of Internet-based broadband phone service, while In-Stat holds that widespread adoption of Internet calling in both the business and consumer markets depends on the availability of compatible wireless handsets (August 2005 report).

The NETGEAR device will combine the best of Internet calling and wireless. The NETGEAR phone is pre-loaded with Skype’s software, ready out-of-the-box to use with a wireless network. All a user needs to do after turning on the phone is enter a Skype username and password. The Skype software pulls up the user’s full contact list, displays the connection status on the phone screen, and allows the consumer to connect to any other Skype user for free. The phone will also allow users to connect to non-Skype users with the SkypeOut™ feature. More information on NETGEAR’s Skype WiFi phone, including pricing and availability, is planned for the first quarter of 2006.

“By collaborating with NETGEAR, Skype’s reach is extended to a new, important consumer platform. This new phone allows Skype to offer its global users improved mobility,” said James Bilefield, vice president of business development for Skype. “Simplicity and style were two qualities we looked for in a mobile phone and NETGEAR’s new device will offer both to Skype users.”

In addition to the Skype Wifi phone, NETGEAR and Skype also announced that the NETGEAR RangeMax Wireless Router (WPN824) with Smart MIMO technology, a 2006 CES Innovations Design and Engineering Award honoree and the industry’s #1 selling MIMO-G product, will be equipped to optimize Skype. Adapting to changing wireless conditions is unique to NETGEAR’s RangeMax technology, and RangeMax routers dynamically avoid interference from neighboring wireless networks and eliminate dead spots to maintain the most reliable, high-performance, long-range network connections to each client, making them ideal for supporting applications such as Skype.

NETGEAR and Skype are participating in the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) at the Las Vegas Convention Center through January 8. During CES NETGEAR will demonstrate the new WiFi Skype phone in Booth #36219 in the South Hall 4. Skype will be present in the eBay/Skype kiosk (A129) in the Grand Lobby of the Central Hall.

Kodak and Skype Give a New Voice to Online Storytelling with KODAK Photo Voice

LAS VEGAS, January 3 ― Eastman Kodak Company and Skype™, the global Internet communications company, announce the availability of the latest innovation in digital storytelling ― KODAK Photo Voice ― that combines live voice and online photo sharing. The beta version of KODAK Photo Voice, the first Skype certified online photo sharing experience, is now available as a free download at www.kodakgallery.com/photovoice.

“Today’s families and social networks are scattered around the globe. Staying connected through photo sharing remains an important element in maintaining closer personal relationships,” said Sandra Morris, general manager of Consumer Imaging Services at Kodak. “Traditional social gatherings that once took place around the radio, television or telephone are now happening around the computer, mobile phone or camera. KODAK Photo Voice marks the next step in this evolution.”

KODAK Photo Voice is a brand new way to relive memories, empowering two people to simultaneously view a customized slideshow, and to reminisce and react to each picture. Imagine if Grandma could see pictures from her grandson’s first day at school while he narrates every moment of the experience over Skype. Perhaps an old roommate could share detailed photos and recount stories of his new life in London, as his friend back home in California reacts to each picture.

“Our goal is to make technology easy to use and Skype is a simple Internet communications service that is changing the way people stay in touch,” said James Bilefield, vice president of business development for Skype. “The combination of Skype’s service and KODAK EASYSHARE Gallery’s photo sharing capabilities will make sharing memories even more simple and rewarding for consumers around the globe.”

After downloading KODAK Photo Voice and Skype, the host selects pictures from a KODAK EASYSHARE Gallery album or from their computer, quickly and easily compiles them into a KODAK Photo Voice presentation and “calls” a friend via Skype to watch the slideshow live. Hosts submit orders for prints and other merchandise that guests select through KODAK EASYSHARE Gallery and have them mailed directly to the guest’s home.

This latest innovation in Internet calling will be on display during CES 2006 at the D-Link booth, 35832 in the South Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC), and at the Skype (eBay) kiosks located inside the LVCC grand lobby entrance adjacent to Starbucks.

The D-Link Skype USB phone adapter (DPH-50U) lets users accept both regular telephone and Skype calls from the same phone for added flexibility. When consumers are talking on a traditional telephone line and receive an incoming Skype call, they can easily switch lines to take the Skype call or vice versa, just like a typical call-waiting feature.

Conference calls can also be connected between ordinary telephone lines and Skype. For added convenience, the D-Link Skype USB phone adapter includes a lighted display to indicate whether an incoming call is from a traditional telephone or from a Skype user.

“At D-Link, we know that the digital home is all about integration and ease-of-use,” said Keith Karlsen, executive vice president, D-Link. “By extending Skype to be accessible through traditional phones, we can make the benefits of Skype even easier to experience.”

Using a cordless phone unties the user from their computer while making Skype calls. Additionally, using the traditional telephone enables consumers to use their telephone's built-in features such as speed dial, redial, mute and caller ID.

“Our mission is to make Skype easy and fun to use for consumers everywhere,” said James Bilefield, vice president of business development for Skype. “The D-Link Skype USB phone adapter makes Skyping even more convenient, providing flexibility to our users who want to take advantage of our free services and connect to Skype via their traditional telephone.”

The D-Link Skype USB adapter enables users to:

  • Use a traditional or existing phone to make Skype calls

  • Receive or make both traditional telephone and Skype calls from the same phone

  • Use an existing traditional phone rather than a headset

  • Use a cordless phone and talk freely throughout the house

  • Use convenient built in features, including call waiting, conference calling and call forwarding

  • Take advantage of Skype’s free international calling and talk to other Skype users anywhere in the world for free

The D-Link Skype USB phone adapter is PC compatible, and includes two RJ-11 ports and a USB port to conveniently connect an ordinary phone line, telephone and computer. Since the adapter receives power from the computer through the USB cable, it does not require an additional power supply. The included software installs in minutes and allows users to easily and completely manage their Skype contact list and calling features. The D-Link Skype USB phone adapter can be configured to forward incoming Skype calls to another destination such as a cell phone so that users never miss a call while away from their PC.

Price and Availability

The D-Link Skype USB phone adapter (DPH-50) will be available globally at a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $69.99. The adapter will be made available at skype.com/store and at the D-LinkShop (www.dlinkshop.com), as well as major U.S. retailers such as RadioShack and select retailers in Europe.
